You think that fine would be that small for all of us? Somethings fishy. He should have had his boat confiscated and a bigger fine.

Few factors may have led to to a hometown slap on the wrist for This sumbish.  1) His bro is a retired firefighter.  2) owns the Spud Point Crab Co.  See http://www.spudpointcrab.com/. 3) his family or some type of relation owns the Spud Point Crab Shack.

Total f'ing bullchit about the easy time.  But if you want to play dirty pool you hit him in the checkbook. i would be disgusted to find out that even one dime of public $$ went to fund this convict's illicit activity.

Anyone who is not infuriated by this either has no soul or does not pay income tax.  Gaaaaaahhhhhh!  :smt013

This is BS, I play by the many rules and expect everyone else to also. However we all know the poachers are out there to ruin things for all of us. I can tell you I have seen nice pinnacles wiped out of all abalone, not just legal size but all of them. That hurts... a totally different situation but this pisses me off just the same!

Who is Steven Anello? The web site states Tony is the owner. I have bought chowder there many times. I will have to wait until more fact come out however I will send a message to the DA. Is that the only place we can complain about this? I think it is ridiculous. all the traps should be impounded... inside an MPA Ha! How about complaining to the DFG?

Turns out the convict Steven L. Anello is a third generation commercial fisherman.  There are at least 40 news articles featuring the convict and his family on the press demo.  http://707.pressdemocrat.com/results.html?q=anello

At least one article cites the convict as an owner of the Spud Point Crab Co.  No doubt, even if he were not an actual owner, bet the mortgage that the Crab Shack is a beneficiary of his illegal efforts.

Here's one:  http://www.pressdemocrat.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051128/NEWS/51128002/1033/NEWS01&template=printpicart

Across the street, his wife ladled out clam chowder at their Spud Point Crab Company cafe. Carol Anello said it's been tough watching her husband, brother-in-law and son, all commercial crabbers, pay rising fuel costs, slip rents and gear expenses without any return.

"There's a lot of money going out, and nothing coming in," she said, relieved that the harvest has begun, albeit at the same opening price the crab fetched last fall. "At least you know in two weeks or so, you're going to be getting a check."

Its like ... cry 'em a f'ing river.  If its such a chitty biz, return all the federal aid, get some professional retraining, and give up the life, just like millions of people across the country are having to do.  GAAAAHHHH!!!!

“This is a safe harbor, the best on the West Coast,” said Steve Anello, a fisherman whose home also is on the bay flatlands.

Let's see how many times the convict pops up in public records, shall we?
