I went to launch at McNears yesterday and the road poles were locked in place. Ranger Dan came by and said that a wood chipper crew took advantage and dumped in the back lot SO they now have to keep it locked :smt009.....people
OK now the positive. Since I was a bit late and wanted to paddle N into the outgoing I asked if I could have the option of using the beach N of the pier. It was approved so since we need assistance we can pick which beach depending on the tides. It also has a great base at the low tides. I will use that side today about 12:30 if anyone wants to join me.

Thanks for the report, it helps keep NCKA as the PREMIER site for sharing info.  Sometimes hard to find what you're looking for (cause there's so much) but still I've never seen anything like this place.

Good luck out there.

Ray, wish I'd seen your post earlier. I've launched & landed from the North side of the pier before, where there is a little concrete ramp going to the water at high tide, & it's a brutal very deep mud bog coming back at low tide. Hope you are landing somewhere different from where I did.

Why not launch at the public access site at Paradise Cay?  Park, roll your yak down the wooden ramp to the pier, and paddle out of the marina.

My Bad
I have never been to the Marina. Is there a fee? I have been to the park and that ramp is dicey and slick. Fishing buddy took a nasty fall. But there are fish during the herring spawn, like maybe now?
I am so close to McNears/china camp its hard to look elsewhere still would like to know more.
