Decided to not go, since it's the weekend before my finals. Maybe next year, good luck to you guys! Is this tournament usually around the same time every year?

Too bad, Jack - maybe next year.  Yes, the tournament is held in conjunction with the rockfish/lingcod opener in mid May.  There's always the chance it would change in the coming years, and the most likely change would be to move it to early summer for better chances of fishable and diveable water, warmer beach weather, bigger salmon...etc., but the opener holds alot of allure for all of us hard-up boaters who've waited all or most of the winter to be allowed to target the bottomfish species again.

Hey!  Steve - I'm glad you and your bro and crew are coming to GS.   :smt001  Adam/ATD is in charge of the team scoring and has a separate thread where he's keeping track of who's with who, and he's identified how he'll score.  I believe it's all teammates' scores added and then divided by the number of teammates, regardless of whether they fished that day or not.

If your question is how the scoring for the tournament works, which is common, there's a requirement to fish in at least teams of two (for safety reasons), but scoring is individual.  The team scoring is only a side statistic.  The Angler of the Day / AOTD is the top individual angler.

Last year's winner was Salty.  He scored a lingcod, greenling, cabezon, rockfish and salmon.  There were plenty of 4 species competitors, but Salty was the only one who got the 4 bottomfish species and a salmon.  There was one pacific halibut brought in.

This year's check-in will have self-scoring where people can fill out their own scorecard, and only those reaching a threshhold score potentially placing them in the top ten will go to the official check-in.  It'll be very important, at either self check-in or at the official check-in, to ONLY MEASURE YOUR BEST FISH!  Last year there were so many people to check in, and so many of them sorted through their fish right at check-in.  It was NOT OK!!!

Anyway, I'm trying to get the word out early that we need to keep things moving for all competitors at check-in, so measuring any more than one fish per species will not be tolerated and can lead to DQ!

I'm so harsh.   :smt003
