seriously, what is wrong with people?

there are some mean people out there but if I was in a car with loved ones, bye bye turtle.  I'm not going to swerve and risk an accident....just saying. 

Me too, but i think the article is referring to people deliberately swerving to hit the turtles. 

If I'm driving and an animal gets in my way it gets plowed.
I won't go out of my way to hit it, but I won't swerve to avoid it either.
That was also part of my sons personal driver training with me.

Yes, the observation was, people deliberately swerved to hit the turtle.  It was placed so normal lane travel would miss the turtle. 

One suggestion; go out and buy a rubber turtle, then put a big nail through it and put it back out there.

I agree with Tote; A hard swerve may cause a loss of control.  A risk to my family to avoid hitting an animal isn't going to happen.  I trained my wife and boys to check their rear view mirror, brake, then just before impact release brake.  That way the nose-dive from braking won't scoop a deer or large animal up over the hood and into the windshield. 

I completely agree with not making major corrections to avoid hitting an obstacle... but again, these people are intentionally swerving in order TO HIT a turtle... A TURTLE of all things.  People have all sorts of reasons for doing the shit they do... but why would anyone swerve in order to intentionally kill a harmless animal?

So many people are killed by either swerving to avoid things, or hit them. I had a friend who was thinking about hitting a cardboard box, in the street. He decided not to. looking in his mirror a kid crawled out from under it.
