I sent mine into the state DMV with a check for $29. They didn't charge me a late fee but it took them months to process it.

Did you register it online?

I don't think there was an online option. Printed out the forms and mailed them in.

Uhhhhh......no one on this thread said anything about not paying. What sucks is they charged James the wrong amount of $92 instead of $29.

+1

$63 is a significant over-charge. Personally I would fight to get a refund. Yeah, it probably isn't worth the time but I hate being ripped off.

I don't know if I had to pay that much though.  I'll go check and get back with you....
I checked and here's what I paid;
My registration from February of 2012 says I was charged and paid $29.  It was a new, from-the-dealer, Hobie and I did not have any cert of ownership.  I did have my bill-of-sale and invoice so the DMV accepted that.  I did a tracing of the serial # on the hull.  (It's engraved on the rear at the factory).

I'm sure I was over charged but to get it back will prolly take quiet a large amount of effort to get it back not sure it's worth it. But it could be my aoty fund for next year tho so might be worth it

If you think registration is the end of it, it isn't.  In a few weeks you will get a form from the county tax assessor.
 (Triggered by the DMV.   :smt005 )
After you fill it out and turn it back in, you will get a tax bill for that kayak.  Next year you will get another tax assessment with bill.  And next year, and the next year after that, and every year after that.

yeah I think I had the $29 version. And I had to "explain" the boat to them as well.
