5 lb propane bottle like this;

Or like this;

A 5lb bottle is the same as 1 gallon.

Here's what I'm building;

It's not REALLY a flame thrower, it's a weed burner, or "Vapor torch kit".  It's used to kill weeds by heating the water in the foliage cells and causing them to rupture, thus killing the weed.  Much safer for the environment, and our fishies, than chemicals.

If anyone has a back pack frame like that too, I'd be interested...
I have all the rest of the stuff.

I have a few brand new aluminum propane tanks around that size (I think that size, I can check tomorrow and send pics).  Had these in my storage for a few years.  Never filled.  Have both vertical and horizontal tanks in a few sizes for sale.

Lol. U might need a lawyer after Homeland Security sees this thread. More than likely "flame thrower" is on their watch list. You know, "hot words" that pop up on watch lists.

Maybe call it a weed heater instead, or weed dispatcher. Lol.

common vernacular, at least in the red-neck bbq UDS community is weed-burner if I remember right.

I do the same thing, but on a smaller scale with a butane torch.  Works great for my sidewalk cracks! Cool build, like to see it in action!

Hey Bill, if the tank was never filled or is purged, you could ship it with that reel to me.  :-)
Shoot me a price if you are willing.

Found this backpack on craigslist;

They sell here for about $185.  The same brand and model

Blackhawk makes the frame.  Or you might find that on a military surplus site.

In Texas, they call them "Weed burner"  ask around for a weed burner in our area and you will probably get pointed to the local smoke shop.

A few years ago my son and I went to a machine gun shoot in Nevada.  One of the things they had there was an actual surplus flame thrower.  My son had to suit up in a fire suit in order to use it:

Might be a bit overkill for weeds though!   :smt003

This is what I have. I only paid about $20 when I got mine. Works great, light weight. I keep it by the fire pit to get things started real quick.

Some guys  were using one of those and the fire department told them not to use it and they got just a warning the first time after that they told them that they use it again they would get a fine and get arrested.
