The worst thing about NCKA is the search function. Really one of the worst search engines on the web. Hate to rag on my favorite site but to be a premier website, better get a world class search engine.

More than agree.  It's on the list and will be addressed.

OK.  So I updated the site search functionality.

There is now a drop down box that gives you options depending on where you are.

1) Entire Forum - uses the SMF search function to search the entire site.
2) This Board - searches only within the board you are currently in.  If you are not in a board, this option doesn't appear.
3) This Topic - searches within the topic you are currently in .  If you are not in a topic, this option doesn't appear.
4) Members - searches the members directory.
5) Google Search - redirects to Google and displays what Google would return if doing a search on this site.

Also the search display is updated for all the non-Google searches.  The posts x/y field is clickable and returns all the posts within that topic that have a positive search result.

Let me know what you think.

For me this is a big one,

Last night I did a single word search "lowerance" in the gearing up section, and noticed the results came back sorted by relevance, which, with a single word I'm not sure how one was rated above another unless it had to do with the word appearing more often in higher rated threads.

Sometimes I want to search for something I saw "a few weeks ago" but end up having to look thru a mass of related posts with no date order.

Click on the Search menu item, then go to Advanced Search.  You'll see a search order drop down box. One of the options is "Most recent topics first".

Note that this new search function seems to break search for tapatalk.  Have I mentioned how much I dislike tapatalk?   :smt012

Most recent topics first only works on the Advanced Search and not in the This board search.  Why is that, and can it be an option?

I don't know.  I didn't write the code.  I only installed it.  But yeah, the same thing bugs me.  I'll put it on my list of things to take a look at when I have some time.  Actually I wish the results list would have sortable columns, but alas, that is starting to get a bit complex.

Allen -

THANKS!!! The search function is improved. Is there a way to not search for letters within words?
