Jselli asked if i could fish early this AM, and I actually had a few hours to burn, so I got to the launch at 0530 and made enough decent bait.  Fish were already going at 0530.  Zoomed across to wait for jason amongst the fishys.  I got close a few times before Jason showed but no love.  By the time Jason showed they were going steady off of Long Point...after a bit of paddling and a few manuvers we were in the zone.

A few casts and it was on.  Got this 9# unit on the Zoom.  First topwater fish with 10# (2 pound diameter) spectra.  Amazing feel and wicked hookset...I am sold!

After it settled down they went off huge near Vinegar Point.  I told Jason it was worth the paddle.  I watched as I retied...Jason landed in the middle of a big boil.  On the Kastmaster...

Pretty much died by 0900.  Great day, great company.

Bravo !:smt023

I envy you both for fishing ...or rather "catching" on an early morning weekday and having the lake all to yourselves  :smt002

Sean,

What brand spectra are you using?  I use powerpro on some of my bait casters, but the heavier stuff seems a little stiff for a spinning reel.

How is that 10# stuff?  I might have to check it out.

Awesome.... Sean!
I spoke to Jason as he was driving home today.  He was flying high. :smt026  He said it was the most incredible experience seeing big fish boiling and breaking the surface.  Jason said he was close enough to see their eyes and stripes.

I regret not accepting his invitation to go today.  It sometimes sucks to be responsible worker bee with a conscience.   :smt012

MolBasser,I've got power pro 30lb @ 8lb.dia. on a cheap spin-reel and just attach lighter leaders or whatever the job called for.As it got older it got limper(just like us old guys)I LOVE IT!Two seasons and counting.Just loaded all my Ultra-lite gear with the 2lb.dia. line too!

One thing to remember when fishing with braided line: if you ever snag, DO NOT pull the line with you bare hand or you will get a serious line cut :sad2:. Wrap the line around the butt of your rod (or billy club or landing net) to pull the snag off  :smt002

Mol:

I am using Power Pro 10#.  It is quite thin and super limp.  I am just running it straight to the jig with a Palomar.  I could feel every beat of the tail...kinda cool!

Rockhopper and Co.- Get there EARLY.  The bait was easier, and it will be CROWDED by 0630.

ChuckE-the only reason I got to fish today is I am a worker bee with a conscious...13.5 hour Monday, and I worked until 9 pm last night....another marathon.  Stoked to take a few hours this am though.

I want to thank Sean for being such a great guide. I am sure Sean is a slightly Jaded by the boils but I was amazed not only at the size of the fish boiling but how many and how far they jump out of the water.  I have seen a lot boils in ocean but they don't usually come flying out of the water all at once. It was cool.

I started the day with a dink 12 incher right by the dock.  I had just dropped down my kastmaster for the troll and thought I got it caught on a twig. It was a little line sides.  I got a little lucky with boil that I caught my fish in. As I was on my way I noticed that they were getting closer. It seemed as though they met me part way on my voyage.  As I approached and grabbed my rod I had it snagged on my net.  As I was tyring to release it the fish were splashing all around me.  I got it loose in time to make one cast and catch the fish.  After that nada.  Whooo. That could have been a story for the It happened to me section.

I was probably flying high on my home in part because of some seriously good coffee Sean pointed me toward!  That and my first mendo striper.
