I reinstalled my Garmin 400C fishfinder utilizing the new Hobie thru-hull wiring kit.  A little scary since it requires a 1" hole for each plug but I think it's better than the rubber grommet method.  The kit includes plugs to fill the wire opening if you wanted to remove the FF and not install anything.  The kit cost $11.99 and should be available at all Hobie dealers.

Just be careful with that 1" spade bit.  It was easy when starting from scratch but the existing hole was really tough to control the bit.  A more traditional style bit would be much better if there's an existing hole.  I just didn't have a bit that big.  The new hole was a breeze and I only used a small punch for a pilot.  I would have liked to have ran both wires through the same "plug" but the diameter of the Garmin cables is larger than the two hole plugs would accommodate.

Looking good!  Are you ready to try it out at TC?  :smt003

Yep, I'm ready.  This week doesn't work for either Dave and the weather window looks pretty questionable.  I'm hoping for the following week or if not then, maybe the day after Christmas.  We need at least one more rock fish trip before the season ends.

Nice job on the wiring Martin. BTW, I'll be able to make the hookup after Christmas. We have a shut down for a week and a half. Yey! See you all soon and happy Holidays.

Does that big Garmin get in the way there?  I've got a 440 and need to mount it on the AI .  Dave

Batt:  it doesn't getting the way at all.  The ram mount makes it easy to move in almost any direction.  I love the big screen and the color.  The only issue is; it's a power hog and really works best with 24 volts.  It would only run for 2-3 hours on a 12 volt 8AMH battery.  Since I started connecting 2 batteries together for 24 volts,it will run multiple days.

Yesterday, I picked up the new Hobie kit from Wind Toys in Santa Rosa, cost me $2.50 for the plastic hub, o ring and nut, and $4.00 for the grommet tree. Another great idea from Hobie.

Looks Clean, I have mine up at the sail mask right now but thinking of moving it just not sure if it will get in the way of putting my legs over the side. I like to straddle the yak when bringing in large fish...

They sold it as pick your own parts. Large bag of the holders with the rubber grommet tree separate.

Thanks,
John

Just used these sames ones to install a Lowrance on my Hobie AI.  Mine took 2 as well since the Lowrance transducer cable was larger as well.  They are a nice way to go and yes, it is HARD to pull the trigger on drilling 2 1" holes in my yak!
