What is this?  There were lots in the kelp by the red buoy in HMB.

I got them in the oven with oil, salt and pepper at 350 degrees.  Trying to figure out how long to cook them.  They were hitting my sabiki right next to the yak before I could turn around from putting the last one in the cooler.  Next time I'm going to bring my bluegill set up with a castmaster.  I bet that would be fun.

Twenty minutes was perfect, to me, at least.  My wife came home and exclaimed unhappily "What did you do to the fish!?"  She says they should be fried.
Luckily I saved her a Mackeral  , a rockfish and a red crab, so I was forgiven.

Yep same here. Balloon bobber with a couple squid strip baited hooks below led to many a jacksmelt to 21+"  Watch out for worms in the flesh

Yup its that time of the year! We fish for them on the shore with surf rods rigged sabiki style below a foam float. 3 hooks, fun as hell to bring in 3 at a time cranking back in slowly. Gets old but I do it at least a couple times a year.
