It sucks being broke these days! Day and night I find myself dreaming about a future purchase..... my goal is this next summer, 2013 Hobie Pro angler 14! Ive debated over and over about starting on something more affordable but cant seem to pull the trigger. Ive never been on a kayak so im as brand new as they come. Ill be selling off a couple more things in my inventory an older Mossberg 500 Persuader and a Whites MXT Pro metal detector to get a few bucks closer. Kind of a pointless post. Like I said "Yak Fever"

Not Tryna stray u bro, but if u get a PA... U will soon find out u need a trailer. You need to be an Olympic weight lifter to car top that beast.

+1 on what Rookie.Slayer said.

But also, I HIGHLY recommend that you demo to make sure that you really want to drop all that coin on a PA.  Especially considering the sacrifices you'll have made to acquire it, it would really stink if you didn't like it.

go out and demo one first.it is heavy, but if you have a bit of strenth you will be ok.if your vehicle is a tall one your gonna hate life.but if you have like a sedan or station wagon type of vehicle it wont be as bad.i had the pa 14 and i sold it for that very reason weight.but i do have a toyota 4runner so its a very high lift.pros of the 14,very stable, lots of room, tracks very easliy.cons, stupid heavy, slow, veryexpensive.i sold the 14 and bought the 12.i do miss the ample space of the 14 but i do not miss the weight.i was like you never owned a watercraft and saw the pa and watch a few youtube video went out and bought it.for now go out and demo a few otherwise you might have a big headache.my .02cents.

p.s dont call the pa a yak some people dont like it
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I'm not a power lifter but I can move some weight around. I got a Chevy Silverado so it would be easy to put on there. My grand am is small so it shouldnt be bad on that one. It might be tough to put it on top of my pilot but I've seen  vids where they do it.... Doesn't seem too hard. As far as price, yeah its 3k but it has almost everything I would need on the water. Most things are already intergrated on it.  Best part is the rod storage and the seat. Keep my butt out of the water. I don't think speed will be much of a factor, don't think I'd paddle miles out or race it.

I agree with the rest that you should take it for a test drive before making the purchase. Call the PA what you will, Yak, Boat or a SUP with a seat, I absolutely love my PA 12. I've only had it for maybe two months but I have spent every free weekend day on the water with it. Eight hour days are no problem, pack the cooler with lunch and grab breakfast on the way to the launch and I am good till dinner.

Yak,

A PA is a quite heavy beast. I helped move Aaron's, once off of Joe's truck and almost got a hernia.
I have an Outback I can move myself on to the top of my truck, but that beast was a heavy mother.

Skipro has his on a trailer and it is easy to load and unload. I've seen guys put them on the top of a truck but it always takes two guys minimum.  :smt001

Sounds like you got the stoke bro, good on ya.  I say save and get the yak you want, you'll be a happy man.  I'd check around, most places let you apply rental prices toward a purchase, might be a good way to get on the water while you're saving.

When I bought my 14' PA back in 09 there were no demo PA's that I could find anywhere.  I ended up buying one without a demo ride and I have been very happy with it since!  I am no spring chicken and I manage to load and off load it by myself.  I use a post WWll 1/4 ton Bantam "Jeep" trailer and the height of the PA when loaded is around 6'.  Not as high as a SUV would be but it is up there.  I also bought a Outback around the same time and ended up selling it this year because I never used it, the PA is so much more comfortable and roomier.
Is the PA heavy, hell yea!  Is the PA expensive, hell yea!  Do people call the PA a boat or make fun of how big and heavy it is, hell yea...........I really don't give a rat's behind what people think of my yak as I can stay on the water all day long without a break, the seat is that comfortable.  The first time I used the PA was at Silver lake and I trolled for 11 miles.   :smt002

I'm all in with what you said! It only weighs, what about120-130 not bad at all.... As far as demo it... Sure it would be cool to do it but I've put hours and hours of thought and research... I sit at work "prison control room" for 12 hours a night with really nothing to do but read and watch vids. That "PA" yak is a lux cruiser compared to any other yak. 38 inches wide! Jaws would have a hard time gettin his teeth into that.
Ps. Still have "yak" fever. >:D

The weight isn't so much the issue... its the awkward nature of trying to lift something that is really long and wide and oddly balanced that happens to also weight 120lbs that is difficult.  I have an outback, and while lighter than the PA, it is still a barge.  Now i have a lifted F250 mind you that has racks I put the yaks on... so i have to full on military press the thing up there, but it feels much heavier than it actually is when trying to lift it in such a manner.  Just FYI... make sure you can handle the PA... having to save more for a trailer to get the PA to the water would be a bummer for ya...

All I have to say is "mechanical advantage" to load the darn thing. I think PA's are cool and well thought out. It may be my next kayak; who knows!!!

yep, some sort of lifting device would be nice for sure... a system of levers and pulleys.
