TOTALLY took advantage of the stormy weather.
They just opened a Total Wine in Folsom. When I say just opened I mean the ribbon cutting is December 6th from 4-8.
Anyway, headed down last night hoping the wx would keep the flatlanders indoors. Boy was I right.
No crowds, no parking lot headaches. Almost felt like the Omega Man.
Re: Omega Man http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/the-omega-man/
I figured I would save some cash on gas and stock up.
Sierra Nevada Narwal
Firestone Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout
Leinenkugel Vanilla Porter
Alaskan Smoked Porter
Mendocino Oatmeal Stout
Mammoth Double Nut Brown
Anderson Valley Winter Solstice
Assorted European Chocolate Cookies
I have to say that right now the Vanilla Porter and Nut Brown pair together rather nicely.
Adding a few cookies to the mix the Narwal and Mendo Oatmeal Stout leave me more than satisified yet wanting even more.
The Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout with a Winter Solstice chased by 2 white chocolate covered cookies have me at a fading apex of satisfaction.
I cannot think of a better way to organize my dive gear. Can you?

Beer aficionados:  I don't know about other locations but Costco in Danville carries a large selection of 22 oz. bottles of lots of great craft brews.  Unlike most Costco stuff, these are sold as single bottles and range from about $3.99 to around $30 for some of the really exotic Belgians and bottles as large as 3 liters.  There are lots of great limited release brews that you would only expect to find at the brewery.  A few of the breweries represented are: Lagunitas, Stone, Firestone, Rogue River and many more.  I bought a growler of Rogue's Yellow Snow IPA last week and I think it was around $13.00.  With this kind of selection and prices, I haven't been motivated to brew in a long time.

That's a nice selection Mike!
I'm ordering some grains this weekend to brew some oatmeal stout and maybe some for a porter or a pale ale so if your up for some steelhead fishing (January) I'll kick down a bottle or two of the homebrew.

Total Wine has a few selections to choose from too.
368 seasonal brews alone ought to keep me busy for quite a while.  :smt044

Even the brew pubs around here are out of Pliny.  Apparently it's in very limited supply.  Hop Stoopid from Lagunitas isn't quite as hoppy but a good second choice for draft.
