I saw a couple buoys that looked like crab traps inside near the north jetty.  I'd like to try dropping mine tomorrow,  but it seems like something that wouldn't be allowed.  Anyone know?

Ive been told by Harbor patrol that it is not legal to drop pots inside the harbor. Doesn't mean I havnt seen it done I would def make sure you are not near the boat channel. Places Ive seen ppl drop as well is next to the old cannery but Ive dove that area and you can snag them on many an obstacle down there. Id go just outside the the mouth an drop along the outside of the break wall.

Yes it is legal. Use caution to NOT place them in the path of any power boats entering/exiting the harbor.

This is news to me. I would go by the harbor masters office and ask them personally. If you see a DGF warden, even better.

i was out there opening day and saw a few pots dropped in the harbor, don't think it would be a problem unless you just used caution and like snapperhead said, keep out of boat traffic.

I did it recently and no one hassled me.  Of course I was to the north end where there aren't many power boaters.  There are a lot of rock crab in that area, not many dunghies though. Use common sense and stay out of the power boaters way.

I am curious where you wnet.  I had some monster rockies in there 2 over 7 inches, and another three over 5.  All were good eats

He is still there and hassled me last week for parking on the grass next to the kayak tent. Gave me a hard time about going out on a small boat advisory day too. At least that was about safety I think. Things have been slow there for over a week. I am going to launch at the old pier from now on.

People crab off the pier in the harbor so I don't see why you couldn't off a yak as well. As long as you stayed out of boat traffic.

I went about 100 feet off the north jetty, off that first corner the jetty makes coming in from outside. The tide was 2 hours before high,  maybe I just didn't give it enough time.  People on the pier usually like high tide, and do better at night.
