Does anyone have any experience or opinions
on the Kokatat Expedition drysuit?

I just got a Kokatat front entry Gortex drysuit.  I'm not sure exactly what its called.  I have used it once and the difference between it and the wetsuit/paddle pants and top I was using is amazing.  Not only does it keep me absolutely dry and warm, the transition from driving clothes to the drysuit is much easier.  No more wetsuit to take off and clean and dry when I get home.  The relief zipper is actually functional unlike the one on my NRS FJ.  I wear a Merino wool base layer under it and Nike nylon pants and Merino wool socks.  Having warm dry feet on the water is a new experience for me.

The quality of the Kokatat suits is really good and the warranty can't be beat.  I plan to send mine in at least every couple of years and have the gaskets replaced.  Gasket replacement isn't covered by the warranty, but I understand the cost is minimal.

Thanks for the info Fish n Brew..The Expedition model has the socks and
hood. The hood creates somewhat of a raised collar effect and I am just
wondering if it is really necessary. I have not used the suit yet and have the
option of returning it for something else.

Mine has the built in socks but no hood.  I don't think you can go too far wrong with Kokatat.

Fish n Brew..I notice you have the amas on your REVO. How do you like them? I'm considering them for mine.

I really like the amas.  The added stability when fishing in rough ocean conditions is really nice.  I can move around and get things from behind me without risking flipping the yak.  They also seem to help keep the yak going in the right direction when landing in surf.  I have only one complaint about them:  Both of mine have had leaks open up on the plastic seam welds.  The good news is: Hobie is such a great company that they replaced both of them and one was way out of the warranty period.  I'm very careful not to inflate them too hard because I think the seams may be a little fragile.  However, both replacements have lived a longer life than the originals.  Maybe they discovered a defect and fixed it.  I haven't tried them with the sail yet.  It's one of those things I have intended to do for a long time but just haven't gotten around to it.
