Home-Made Spray Skirt?

Hi there,
We may need a bow spray skirt, just to keep out the occasional splash. Has anyone tried to make their own? What materials did you use? How did you fasten it to the bow of the boat?

I tried to search under "home made spray skirt" but it only brought up past classifieds from 2007, haha. My hubby also wants to design some sort of shade cover out of PVC pipe (I am going to search for that next,  ).
