Any recommendations on where I should get my new kayak?

I've never owned a kayak before, but I've decided to take the plunge in July (when I get my mid-year bonus).  After 15+ hours of internet research, plus a visit to Outdoor World in (near?) Dallas during a recent business trip, I'm definitely going to be ordering an OK Prowler 13.  This forum has been an invaluable resource for fishing kayak info so I thought I'd troll for some ideas on where to get my first-ever kayak.

Price is important to me (that "pimp my civic" thread really caught my eye, lol), but I'd like to order from someone reputable that'll stand behind their product.  It'd probably be nice to order from out of state (I'm in Alameda, CA) to avoid the sales tax.  Anyone know if I can order online tax-free from REI if I take advantage of their free shipping to a local store?
If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

- Erich

I'm gonna post this thread on the manufacturer's forum, too.

Why order one when you can go to Outback Adventures Demo in Larkspur this Saturday 6/17/06 and buy one on sale.  Just a thought.

Jason can probably get you (the same or) a better deal than Outback's prices on "slightly used" boats or even their new boats at a demo discount.

Jason has hooked me up and he's gonna be there with rigging advice and help, not to mention to fish with sometime!  Not sure Outback would provide that kind of service after the sale.

I admit I got lucky when Jason found me a slight blem SPTW at his OK distributor for $xxx off retail price, but he will do right by you, too.  He's not in it for the money either, he just wants to help a bro (or sis) out.

The demo day is a good idea, anyway, for boat comparison purposes, even buying from Jason - if you don't mind the $20 reg fee... Plus there's a raffle available also.....

Outback Adventures has a decent price. 169.00  I sell P13's with paddle for 750.  If you are an NCKA member you get 15$ off.  Soo that brings you to... 735 not including tax.

Jason

Craig, thanks for the kind words.

No probs Jason.  I am sure anyone you have helped has lots of positive comments.

I have my roof rack, and some roof bar pads which I hope are long enough (23" - hope the SPTW's cockpit gunwales are no more than 22" apart... but I will bring a couple hand towels just in case.)

Looking fwd to your PM...
