Big Hammer in 6.5"-9" with 2-4 Oz jigheads

+1 Black/blue/white, Halloween, red/red flake, all white

I would have a few 5" hammers for smaller fish and halibut.

For streamers: green on white clouser, black on white clouser

I like using a 8 or 6 oz iron. I make mine in red and purple.  A rhythmic soft bounce really makes a difference.  I also like using a 4 inch berkley havoc tube with a 4 oz scampi head.  A big swimbait with for oz head for big lings and a small swimbait when fish are schooling.

I will always have a fly rod with me.  A lot of people think that fly gear is only for top water action, but we do a lot of deep water action.  Of course nothing compares to catching fish on top.  As for rocks and kelp beds, no worries there.  We tie on weed guards and you would be surprised how thick of weeds I have fly fished.

See you all on the water!

So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Scott, try to keep it simple on the ocean. Sometimes less is better. I'd suggest a single Plano flat w/3 swimbaits, 1 scampi, 1 grub, 3 or 4 leadheads, and 2 or 3 irons. Then some terminal stuff like swivels, hooks, and a few teaser flies. Tie some dropper-loop rigs the night before so you don't get seasick tying knots OTW. Or even jus buy some pretied shrimpfly rigs and remove 1 of he flies so you can use a lure on bottom instead of a regular sinker.

Man I have been waiting to hear something on this site that I would consider undeniable great advice. That my friend is killer. I would have never thought of that. Pure genius.

Haha I used to bring so much tackle with me. And then I'd only use like 4 or 5 different lures all day (minimum 6hrs OTW).
Now I just bring 1 plano box with plastics, irons, and leadheads. I gotta post up some pics. Saves about 5lbs too.

5" big hammers with 2oz heads and some iron jigs.....can't go wrong with those...... alot of people like shrimp fly rigs but typically you will only catch little guys with those.... big hammers and iron.....catches all the different cod and halibut aswell.
