Thought I'd share a project Shilo and I completed recently.  Not a ground-breaking design as many have done similar racks - but new to us none the less.  Shilo built the PVC rack; however, we found the kayaks sitting directly on the PVC combined with the heat in the garage was creating indentations on the bottom of the boats.  So I added some 2" wide straps with cam locks which were ordered from www.custiomtiedowns.com.  Now we can slide the kayaks onto the rack and then raise them off the PVC.  Also added a base and wheels onto the bottom so the rack can be moved around as needed.  Nice having paddles, vests, wetsuits, etc stored on each boat.

Funny - the PVC rack was complete; then we bought the Big Tuna.  I had to cut out the center braces to widen the rack.  Fortunately, my straps were long enough and the rolling base was not built yet  :smt003

Sweet rack and an awsome fleet  :smt003 Be careful if it gets warm you should try and slide the cudas back a bit they are really soft under the rod pod.Your straps will warp it if you can move it back so the straps under where the foam support is it would be better. :smt006

Maybe if you put 3 straps it would divide the weight so heat and weight would be a third less. Only if you have all three straps adjusted for equal weight.

Thanks SeaWeed-

I've successfully hung Jackson's from the roof with 1" wide straps in an uninsulated garage without issue.  As the fleet grew I had to find a vertical storage solution.  I'm now using 2" wide straps and believe this will suffice - however, should I see anything of concern - a 3rd strap will likely be the first course of action.  Thanks for the idea.

Nice! I just moved into a house with a lot less garage space and need to come up with a rack for the kayaks, I may be stealing your idea :smt023

Happy to report after two days of 106 - 111 degrees there was no problems with the kayaks hull sitting on the straps.  Having the rack on wheels has been invaluable.  All my fishing gear is hung on peg board so I can push the kayaks up close and pull them out when I'm going fishing.  Our clothing, boots, paddles are sitting on the kayaks.  Having things organized has made life so much easier - and we don't forget stuff :-)

Dan - as you know, the kayak flipped upside down has been replaced with a Jackson Cruise which has been a great boat!

Maybe run a couple of pvc lenth wise then the two pipes will support the weight throughout instead of just the pressure area

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I just built mine two weeks ago. Paddle boards and the kayak plus all the gear under it. I'm adding a rod rack to the side now.
