Good Dempsey memory Jim!

I can't remember the guys name but didn't some guy return the opening kick-off for a TD in the first NFL game ever played by the Saints?

YES!!!!

From the web:

On the first play of our first game in 1967 we scored on a  94-yard kick-off return for a touchdown by rookie John Gilliam to begin the 1967 season against the Los Angeles Rams. (There is a rumor that following this play many fans allegedly heard another fan in Tulane Stadium shout out aloud "This is going to be the greatest football team in history!" -- thus forever jinxing the Saints). Apparently the Rams were not informed of this declaration as they quickly recovered from the opening blow to win 27-13. The first-ever win for the Saints came in week 8 when rookie wide receiver Flea Roberts scored 3 touchdowns in a 31-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now....let's hope we can beat those dirty birdie Falcons on Sunday!!!!!!!

Alright...I apologize...I get carried away when thinking about New Orleans and my family and the Saints.

Will be home next month from 12/21 to 1/4 and can't wait!  :smt003

If you have ever spent time down there I think you will enjoy this piece below by Wynton Marsalis...little long but beautifully written and summons up the feelings and vibe of the City...and, of course our team....

http://wyntonmarsalis.org/news/entry/the-spirit-of-new-orleans

Here's a vid of a shortened version, but the full piece is beautiful...

Yeah you right.

I still remember people crying foul after Dempsey's kick, mostly by the losers.  :smt005

I think that video inspired me to make New Orleans the destination of one of our (Omar and I) football travel games next season.  I'd probably take him out there for one of his upcoming vacations but he's already got his mind set on going to Seattle even though we might not watch a game.

The respectful rivalry between the Saints fans and Falcon fans when we went to Atlanta to watch them play last season was serious but fun.  The entire vibe of it all made it a memory neither he nor I will ever forget... we can't wait to get back out there again.

Things would be easier if he had chosen to be a fan of a local team...  :smt012

Angel, if you get out there let me know...would be stoked to set you and Omar up with my family.  :smt004

The games at the Dome are a ton of fun for sure, and my family would make sure you and your son had a good time.

Angel,

Couple pics and a little vid for Omar to get him fired up for today's game!   :smt002

The vid shows the atmosphere in the Dome...always a good time, win or lose. We took some Raiders fans friends to a game a couple years ago and they were like "I can't believe how much fun everyone is having even though you lost!"
