Hey Guys,
Can anyone tell me if the gate to Gerstle Cove is open on weekdays?
Also, how easy is it to get a kayak down to the beach for a launch? Is there a long carry, any stairs, etc?
Thanks!
Andrew

To my knowledge it is open week days. You can back your rig down within about 80 feet of the water. The only awkward part is having to traverse some slippery rocks.

Not a bad place to launch with help, solo it sucks, IMO.   If you don't mind dragging you yak over the rocks it's doable, carrying your yak over those rocks would be somewhat treacherous.  Wheels would not help.  A skid plate would nice though.

I think Salt Pt (Gerstle Cove side) is still a 365 day park.

Make it easy on yourself and launch from OC.
IMO the launch at Gerstle absolutely sucks.

Thanks for the tips. I was hoping to dive somewhere north of Stump, though, so OC would be quite a paddle. I'll figure something out.

Are you going solo Andrew? If not its a piece of cake for two to carry down those little stairs. 2 miles to Stump northside. Right you know where> You shouldnt dive solo anyway. If you launch at OC it puts another 1+ miles to your paddle. We carried down the stairs at Stump and Horseshoe before. Salt point is nothing.

An extra mile paddle is nothing.

There's not allot of territory between Stump and the southern SMR line, there are at least 2 decent shore entries, but I'm pretty sure you know that already.

Have fun, be safe.

Is it just one mile? Now I feel embarrassed! Craig - I won't be diving solo. Again, thanks again for all the advice. We might just do a shore dive for all I know...

It all depends doesnt it Mike? I would opt for the closer launch. Actually I just googled the distance from OC to Gerstle and its 1.75 miles. If you are diving closer is always better.
