Turkey opens Saturday and I'm going crab one day and turkey the other day this weekend depending upon weather.  I might join you, it'll be a gametime decision Saturday morning early.

I went out of Trinidad last Sunday and the crabbing was as good as last year, just a bit light.  I heard a rumor that commercial was looking at January again to let them fill out, so if true more for us til then.

I may join yall, but this is the last chance at some ocean chrome so I may spend the weekend at Shelter Cove trolling for salmon while my crab pots soak.  Weather looks like its going to cooperate.

I would love to come over; however, we were over this last weekend and the cost of gas is out of control ($80 just for gas). I am hoping to hit Lake Almanor this weekend if the wx holds for some float tubing with a flyrod. I would like to come over the next weekend! Hope to see the Lost Coast crew soon. :smt006

Weather not looking good for turkeys. My spot I scouted is snowed in.

See you all in the morning at Trinidad. There is a good chance I'll be out a little earlier than 9.

How was it?  I will be in Trinidad with my family and would like to go crabbing depending on the process.  Can I get the lowdown on crabbing Trinidad?  Where best  to park, where to launch, how deep or general area to avoid...etc.

This will be our first time visiting the area.

Thanks,
Nate

Hey Nate. Easy limits, easy launch, two dozen strong plastic armada with men, women, and children all participating, happy, giggling and having the time of their lives.  It's like kayak crabbing Heaven.

Will you be around this Saturday morning? I'm 90% on going out, weather permitting of course.

Trinidad is a great place to crab the ocean, but the one drawback for me is lengthening my ropes.  You'll need at least 40 to 50' on each piece of gear, and 60 to 70 would be better.  It's also the ocean and not a bay, so be ready for real swells and wind that can push you away from where you want to be.

Yeah Eric that is all true. 75' minimum for rope for sure. The swell hasn't been a factor yet but any south component makes the launch a challenge, the head protects the productive area just west of Prisoner Rock from N and NW swells pretty well but it's definitely been squirrelly.

Saturday's forecast shows swell building through the day so getting out early will be best.  I agree with Crash's assessment of 75' rope length especially like for Saturdays forecast.

I have an extra ring/bait I can share if anyone is in need of one Saturday morning.

Saturday weather and seas forecast not looking so good. Fingers crossed for a window, and we might need to be flexible on location if the 5' SW swell at 6 seconds actually happens.

The crab were hungry and plentiful today.  In less than an hour I got a fat limit of biggins'.  It was so flat I took my dog Miles out to pull the pot.  I also kayaked without the seat for the first time since I forgot it.
