Totally killed it at fort Ross yesterday.

I was on a small boat, but we fished pretty shallow water. Caught about 40 fish in total with very few canaries and 7 lings.

I'm def looking to hook up with someone to take my yak out there. It was a blast! Shoot me a PM if yer game to go out there.

Here is a photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/21008020@N08/

Note the little cod. These were hammering small red hooks. I got to ling hitch bikers on them.

Good luck.
Make sure you have all your safety gear, wetsuit, VHf radio, compass, etc and have practiced self rescue. Go with one of our more experienced guys.
There have been a couple new kayak fisherman who very recently got themselves in trouble. Overconfident and not taking things like life jackets and wetsuits.  We almost lost one off Coyote point last weekend. He had  a rain suit and boots on and an undersized lifejacket. He couldn't get back on his yak. Was near exhaustion and Hypothermia when my friend in a PB found him.
Takes a while to dial it in and things still go wrong.

Thanks for the heads up.

My safety gear:

Radio
6 flares
Life jacket
Wetsuit AND swim fins
Usually a spotter on the cliff where I fish or a phone call prior to enter and excting the water.

I'm also a surf photographer so am experinced in taking a few severe beating over the years!

That's more than a lot of guys have, and combined with your comfort in the water you should have no problem.  :smt004

Keep your eyes on the hook ups section on here as a lot of guys have been having a lot of fun up on the Sonoma Coast this year.

Hey, I think Ft. Ross is a great place to fish also.  I can go on a Sunday as the fort only seems to be open on
Sat. & Sun. now and I work Saturdays.  Check the Hook-ups section of the site & I'll see ya OTW.

Yes, 4 of us :) I'm very cautious about limits and pulling the wrong fish out.

It was one of my better trips I have ever had.

Welcome aboard Mrpickles. We had a great time catching at Timber Cove (a little North of Fort Ross) too.  Thanks for the report and pictures.
