I saw this today.  Might be able to modify it.  Lot's of possibilities.  Stronger platform for the bbq.

yeah I saw that one as well. I have to say for less then $10 I am really, really happy with the wood one I made. I will try and weight it this week. My guess is its 20lbs or less. For the handful of uses it will get (crabbing was a breeze with it) I am pleased

Eric, it looks good. I always thought the wood needs to be beefier in order to be able to support the weight of an adult. Could you tell me if your haka is able to withstand the weight of an adult standing in the middle of it? I was originally looking at this one...

Eric, I like your bench too.  Price and weight is perfect.  I bought the ramp anyway because I need one.  I'll see if I can use one of 3 pieces for the AI.  From the total weight I'm assuming that one ramp only weighs 10lbs. I also like the fact that it's aluminum.

The Northern Tool one looks heavy and is made from steel.  Seems like lighter is better & corrosion resistant; ie aluminum, fiberglass, etc...

Have any of you guys considered using the plastic decking material?  I don't know anything about the weight or strength but the water proof characteristics would seem to be a good thing.

I am 200lbs. Once fully dressed and ready for the water prob. 220+. I was also concerned with the strength. I fastened the slats with Titebond II glue (I didn't have Titebond III) and wood screws (one per end per slat). Once it was fully dry I added some natural sealer. I had the bench across two saw horses and was able to sit on it (full weight) and did some controlled bouncing. Yes it flexed but I got no creaks or cracks. Keep in mind that was on solid ground. When I used it on the water I didn't notice any flex. I assume that is because the bench is now suspended over a softer (water) base. Do I think I could jump up and down on it? Maybe one the water. On land I am sure I could break it. If I wanted to beef it up I could add some vertical grain supports on the underside. For now the bench is a winner. I will snap some more pics and weigh it. Oh and as Al mentioned that thing will make a awesome camp table. Need to figure out some sort of simple leg set up. I love multi task items! I also plan on messing around with a gun mount if and when I get Chuck to take me duck hunting!

Rey, if those ramps are 10lbs each that is great! One concern I had with them was that I would need to add some cross slats (adding to the weight). For a set of three I think you could split the cost across a few buyers and make it a real deal!

I looked at plastic spine boards but the cost (shipping) was kinda crazy.

A small bamboo bench would be prett cool!  I'm sure it's still not as cheap as EWB's, but it would look ultra cool!  I saw someone clearing some bamboo out of their yard, might swing by and see if there is some useable pieces!  :smt003

Hence my " " around Engineer ... Designer is a better term.

Designer:  Ability to design, create and fulfill required elements of task without a degree.  Generally smarter than an Engineer.  Can accomplish the same task in far less time and has ability to operate even the most advanced hand & power tolls without instruction. :smt044
