Berkeley Pier 06-07-06

well it was a good day and a bad day real choppy in the morning but it got better then choppy then it flatten out again
but me and chuck hooked up chuck with a nice halle and me with a 26 in bass all on live smelt
the afternoon was more flat then the morning who would of known
well chuck has the pics so I will let him post them

ATTA Boy guys... I'll be looking for some of that action on Saturday.  Good work... looks like the Butts have started to show en-mass.  The coastside reports really have me jazzed.

congrats guys!!! I was poised and ready to go but mid afternoon responsibilities got in the way. I thought I would stay closer to home if time became an issue. I was going to hit OP but the wind was to high.  When I talked to chuck at 10 no one had hooked up yet. Glad to hear things worked out for you.  I was concerned about the wind but you guys muscled it out.  GOOD JOB>

How far out from the pier?

Duane, BigeyeDave, and I must have paddled about 3 miles just to get to past the end of the old pier pilings.  It took about an hour.  Dave must have had extra energy.  He paddle around the barges that were near the Bay Bridge and Treasure Island.

The conditions were unpredictable.  We thought the wind would gradually get worse, but at times it was really nice out there.  Here's a shot of Duane bouncing around. 

 

The more you paddle out there the shorter it gets.  WTG on the fishes.  Looks alot nicer than sundays catastrophe conditions>    I'm gonna hit it sat morning depending on conditions, yo chuck, did ya guys get chovies or what???

Very impressive -- very little hull slap, very dry, handles wind waves and swell like a champ.  I think I'm falling in love.
Duane kept saying I looked way too comfortable on that thing, but it really was like fishing in a LazyBoy chair.

The halibut fishing in the bay is really picking up.  Listening to the VHF radio was killing me.  Lots of private boaters were reporting 6 to 11 fish per boat.

I got in trouble last night because you got a Halibut.  My wife loves Halibut and she new I was going to possibly head out with you guys. Of course just cause I was there doesn't mean I would catch anything, but it does tell me I have the thumbs up for the weekend!!!!
