over the winter I took advantage of a few discount houses and specials.

I hope one day to have caught a fish on all of them,  :smt009

I probably have 8 rods at the moment.  My wife seems to think I should be able to fish for everything with one rod and doesn't understand my need to diversify for various fishing types.  It's a constant battle for me, one which I rarely win.

Rods that see regular use, or do I count "retired" rods? How about rod blanks, any partial credit for them?

scott, if it's long and skinny and could be used to catch a fish, it counts.

Had to walk out to the garage and count them..18.
I should get rid of the ones I don't use.

Too many! I find I use only 3!  My bass rod, my trout rod and my ultra-lite (3.6')

Clearly asking a fisherman how many rods they own is a very personal question, perhaps semi-religious in nature.  As a worshipper at several local temples of fishing (aka tackle stores)  I accumulated the bare minimum for club bass tournaments to add to my trout gear, striper gear, trollling gear, fly fishing gear, etc.

I like to think of rods like golf clubs: each has a unique purpose tht other rods cannot quite fufill.  That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I answered the poll honestly (15-30 rods), but I wonder if a helpful second poll might be: what is the number of rods you own divided by the number of years you have fished?  For more mature anglers, this would allow an honest response that totally hides the depth of the addiction!

Multiply by 2 since you HAVE to have 2 of everything especially with that darn 2 rod stamp.   :smt004

I did a count last night and I'm at 16 plus a couple more pending being built.

Building rods as a side-business definitely helps me satisfy my fishing rod fantasies and keeps me from building too many for myself.  Seems I'm always so busy building for others that when I build one for myself it is usually a rush job.  Funny how that works.

FYI... my current rod building projects include:
- 15 foot surf rod rated fo 4-12 oz lures for targeting trophy blue catfish in locks & dams in Louisiana.
- 11'6" Surf spinning rod for striper plugging... designed for distance casting with spectra line.
- 11 foot vintage Sabre surf rod rebuild.
- two 11-foot vintage Lamiglas surf rod rebuilds.
- two 4'6" spincast rods as first fishing rods for a couple 4-year old twin boys of some close friends (Benjamin's Bluegill Buster and Samuel's Sunfish Slayer).

Projects on the horizon include:
- Another raffle rod for this year's Elk tournament.
- My new big ling stick that I'll be using to win the Elk tournament.   :smt002

Good times.

you crack me up Brian  :smt044

I actually have 10 rods = 4 for freshwater fishing and 4 for Ocean fishing and 2 telescopic back packing rods. BUT, I tend to upgrade rods every year. I end up selling or trading for new ones. I believe Bill,Stuart, Fred and Chuck have all benefited from my constant need to upgrade  :smt003

Joel,
When are you upgrading the calcutta TE?

BTW, I still owe you for the last rod.  You can add the TE to my IOU. :smt003

Stuart

As for how many rods?  Don't know, but its not enough.
