This Sunday will be our first time crabbing Doran. We have some friends coming out and we were just going to hang out at the day use area. Any tips for a Doran rookie. Pretty comfortable with the crabbing part just not familiar with the location. Any guidance you guys could lend my way would be greatly appreciated. Don't want to lead my friends astray.

Best,
Phil

You don't need to go far out. The wind can pick up, and crab are pretty close. And don't drop pots in front of the opening of the
jetty  :smt044

They have one first-come campsite in each of the camp areas.

The fishing used to be pretty good in what is now an MPA.

It's a bit of a paddle but if you go south around the Esteros there are lings and things and you might even get some butt love or a sea bass. Fishing around the head is only so so with a lot of sea lions everywhere. There are abalone out on seal rock but it is very landlordy.  I plan to drop pots and head south to the Estero Americana.

Do you guys drop pots in the bay itself or south of the Doran beach peninsula?
