Would this be a newbie-friendly hookup? No offense taken if not.

Sure newbies are welcome. Just make sure you have the minimum safety equipment and can self-rescue. The NOAA forecast is sweet:

Friday: Variable winds 5 kt or less. Patchy fog before 11am. Mixed swell...NW 1 ft and SW 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

I was thinking of launching at Gerstle and heading north to fish just south of the SMR. I have Garmin blue chart so pretty easy to stay out of the reserve. I have only fished sonoma once before out of SWN at RBC2 so am open to suggestions. Was planning on a 7-730 AM launch and OTW around 12-1230.

Thinking about the moon and the tides , next Friday would be the ideal situation. The moon is down and high tide is around 9:30 am. We always see the bite pick up as the tide draws to the top. Not trying to throw a wrench in Scott. Just thinking. The WX does look very very nice. If I can get Friday off Ill join you. Ill call today.

Never fished Sonoma Coast before, I probably can join you this Friday.  Are you planning for just a day trip or stay somewhere the night before ?  I also need to know which route to take to get to the specific spot you plan to fish from San Francisco, I think it probably will take 2-3 hours driving time .  Thanks

I thought you were kidding when you said you'd only fishe d the area once before.  If time is a concern Timber Cove might be worth considering. It's definetly the easiest and least time consuming launch in the area, you get to drive within 50ft of the water, then just sand to the water, then park another 50 ft away.   Lots of good structure both north and south of the launch.  But if you're looking to fish the south edge of the reserve TC wouldn't be it.  Others here have allot more experience up there than I do, just thought I'd throw that out.

Hey all,  I would echo Dale L. about the put-in.  I launched at Gerstle on 9-28-12 for the first time & it's a tough put-in & take-out, especially if you're solo.  On the stairs and on the rocks, you can't roll a cart, you have to carry, but it's not a long distance and there is no swell.  They also have a fish cleaning station right there.  Timber Cove is the easiest launch up there, especially for noobies (like me).  A friend and I will be up there Thursday through Sunday and would welcome company.  I would put in at Fort Ross, Timber Cove, Stillwater Cove, Ocean Cove, or Gerstle Cove, but I don't want to make that paddle to the SMC north of Gerstle.  I'll be leaving Wednesday evening.  Hope to see you all out there!  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

I think I could be in on this, I'm a noob but prepared and confident

What kind of gear and tackle would be needed?
