I've received a few enquiries about the date for The Seventh Annual Gimme Shelter Kayakfishing Tournament, and I hope to determine it before the end of this year.  I have someone at DFG looking into when the season will be set by the PFMC, and he is to get back to me soon (hopefully).  Chances are the season will start on the second Saturday in May or thereabouts, but I need some confidence in that before I set any dates.

If I get the run-around from the G-men I may have to just pick a date like Memorial Day Weekend, but I have a couple months to do my homework.  Any suggestions you may have are welcome.

Thanks.   :smt001

How about May 18 or 25? To avoid Mother's Day and potentially the opening-day crowd. (Assuming it opens 5/11 or 5/18)

I am cool with any day. The cool thing if it is on May 25th then I get to spend my Birthday on the 24th up there.

My votes are:

No Memorial Day, I have plans and Traffic sucks.

Opener would be my preference.....there is something special about opening day!

Alternatively go for the season close to get some better late season weather, but don't book to close to Albion.

I vote for setting the date before december rolls around (vacation roster starts going around).
I want to be able to snag the dates.

I say stick with tradition and do it on the opener. But whatever the majority decides...

The only bad thing about tourney on opening day is if the weather is blown out then there is a chance of going home fishless since we can't catch them the prior days and most will be packing and leaving Sunday.
