Just curious if anyone has been to the river this year,,, I'm going on Wednesday , but don't know if I'm taking my Yak. I am going to the Orville WildlIfe area where I have fished from the bank for years. Just wondering about river conditions, or any tips on fishing there from my kayak there.

I spent most of yesterday on the river. Not much biting though. Lots of fish that have already turned color were jumping but not biting. Near dusk I had two different pickups but they both spit the hook before I could see them. Only bites I got in about 8 hours on the water.
I talked to several locals and they all said that the bite is still a couple weeks away.

I've landed 4 salmon this season - two last week and all from wading into the waters across from the afterbay spill. They are starting to get dark, but they're still very nice fish. I hit them with spinners (#6 blue fox) before the sun comes up. After 9am, all the action changes to bouncing beads. The boats are killing them at the spillway. I saw two boats limit in about 2 hours...thinking 14-16 salmons from just those guys. They get close to the spillway and drop they're roe right in front of they're mouths....must be nice to have a fish finder!!!

-Good luck

I've been pulling them above shanghi for over that last couple weeks.  But since the river went up lately we haven't had much luck.  I'm heading out Thursday and will report back.

Thanks for all the reports,,,I went on Wednesday 9-26-12,,,fished in the wildlife area below the boat launch area,,first thing in the morning fished with spinners with zero luck, then we switched to drifting beads. I hooked up seven times but only landed one about 20lber. it was turning a little dark but wasnt bad yet. all the otheers I saw were a little dark also.

And I was from the bank. Is anyone fishing from their kayak here,,I think i'm going to go back next week with mine, was hoping to get some tips about fishing from the boat there.

It's hard to fish there in a yak because the flow is pretty fast in most areas. Some sections it slows down and is doable. To get to some of the slower sections you need to walk it along shore past the rapids. Once in the slower section no problem. You can also walk your yak down a couple steep embankments to get to a couple good sections. Good luck, I may be there this afternoon.
