oh yeah, i experienced the distinct priveledge of fishing with bob franko on his boat the "fishing machine" today.  our quarry was salmon, but we did not want to go back to point reyes, [we had been there sat. in different boats] because it is so far away.  therefore we agreed tp ply the local waters, which had been slow recently.
we started at deep reef, we quickly picked up a keeper, but in general in was slow.  we kept moving to different rips, all of which inevitably had whale in its midst.  bob was very adept at spotting these rips, the first 2 were obvious, swirling current and very wide, but the next 3 were small and consisted of a wind line of foam.
we caught fish in all but 1 of the stops, but many were coho or shakers.  we finished with 4 keepers to 8lbs.
by the way, bob is tireless, at 3pm we were headed home, but we had to stop at another rip, i sat this stop out, we had been taking turns working the gear, [andy, mannie and myself],  i was beat and my stomach was in a knot after 2 consecutive days on the ocean. we caught some more shakers and our smallest keeper there.

sat. report- i was on ken's grady white. we launched from oyster point with high hopes about the calm water and easy limits at point reyes. we were in for a suprise.  we pounded our way through the wind chop, the whole way from the gate to north of point reyes, it took about 2 hours.  we trolled around all day for 2 keepers to 8lbs.  the ride home was brutal, a following sea consisting of a mixed swell and a million witecaps, like the bay at 4pm, but bigger! :smt009. rounding point bonita was more than exciting.
now i am exhausted, time eat and sleep.

Been there done that too. I once was with a friend on 20ft skip jack. Great boat but one day we headed out and probably shouldn't have.  on the way back in under that gate we were holding on for life.  Put it this way, at 21 at the time  I thought my life was over.  3 passangers, 3 broken seats.  when we got in we thanked the lord and fished the flats for butts.  Fisherman are relentless. :smt001
