Anyone has a used quality made 50cm roadbike that's just taking up some space in the garage?
My son wants to ride but I don't want to get him something new that's gonna cost me an arm and leg and at the same time I don't want to get him a piece of Walmart crap :smt001

i have a 52 cm Focus TT bike that's only seen about 300 miles of use since April.  PM me if interested.

also check out the demo road and tri bikes that will be going on clearance at Sports Basement this and next month.  even if not on sale, you can ask mgr to sell you one.

if he's at all interested in competing in tri's, recommend you get him a tri bike.  you can ride road with a TT bike, but TT'ing with a road bike royally sucks.

tough to find a road bike in the $200 range that is not a POS.  Good thing is that summer/tri season is over.  Like with kayakfishing, people who bought equipmnt to try out the activity and found out its not for them may be disposing of their gear.  But paying only $200 for something that isn't crap would be a tall order.  you'd have to search pretty much constantly on cl.org, and for a while.

if you need to get him something right away, check out performance.  here's one for only $550, and 100% guarantee, no questions.  Very costco-like return policy, wink wink

Allan,
I have a Fuji Newest 3.0 that's hanging from my garage rafters.  It has new forte tubes, front and rear and has had very little use.  I couldn't take less than $400 for it but that's a really good deal for this bike.

I had to search CL for months to find something between the $300-400 range and that was a tall order.  Took me nearly 10 years to find my current bike; Trek Y-Foil 66.  These things, in good condition, are hard to come by for less than $1100 ready to ride.

Allan:

I have a Bell road helmet for your kid, if you want it, and if it fits.  Hasn't see use in years, sitting in a garage cabinet.  Never impacted.  Free

My kid's interest came about when a friend gave us a couple of nights complimentary stay at Calistoga Ranch.  We borrowed the hotel's bikes and cruised down the winding vineyards roads to St Helena.  Ever since then he's been bugging me to get him one. :smt003

Allan,
I'm pretty sure it's a 50cm.  I know it's the "standard" size, if there is such a thing.  I have a few extras, I will throw in.  A new helmet, an "under the seat" bag, a pump, a water bottle and a basic tool kit that fits in the bag under the seat.  Call me at 925 964-0491 if you have questions or want to arrange to look at it.  It's a very nice bike.  It just isn't getting any use these days.

I will check it out when we see you at the LS get together next month Martin.  Hope to take it home that day too :smt002

Sounds great Allan.  I'm not sure what size the frame is but it will be here on the 6th.
