2012 Santa Cruz County Fair

Hello all...

   As an active volunteer there .... Thought I'd pass along that the 2012 Santa Cruz County Fair officially kicked off today and runs thru September 16.  It is located in Watsonville with easy access from Monterey, Santa Cruz and Gilroy/South Bay areas.  Come enjoy the livestock exhibits put on by our local 4-H & FFA members ranging in age from 9 to high school age.  Catch a concert or a free car race (Friday/Saturday nights).  How about some Fair Foods!  Rides, games, etc...  Tour a historical exhibit at the Agricultural History section or see what the local schools and artists are exhibiting.  Good family fun to be had by all....

   Please keep in mind that this fair is run EXCLUSIVELY by volunteers.  It took a great number of people dedicating their hours, at no-charge, to make this years fair happen.  Without the support of local communities, a piece of Santa Cruz county heritage will be gone.  The S.C. county is rich in agricultural heritage but did you know that it carries a great maritime heritage as well?  Come see how a great deal of the counties goods were passed through ports in areas such as Moss Landing & Elkhorn Slough.  Please join me in attending this years fair and be sure to thank the volunteer staff you see tending to the exhibits, displays and many presentations going on throughout the fairgrounds.  They give tirelessly throughout the year to make these 6 days happen!

thanks for the reminder, have not missed it for the last 39 years.  Damn, I'm old...

I have only missed 1 year since I was less than a year old and that was only because I was stuck in my house @ Pensacola, FL with Hurricane Ivan.  Hope to see you there!

Posting up live from the fair!  Fun to be had by all!!!!  Another full day planned here for tomorrow.  Come early and buy a hog, lamb, steer, goat or rabbit to support the local 4-H or FFA member!  The wonderful tastes that Freedom Meat Locker produces can be all yours!!!
