Yeah that seems to be a common issue. I think it's designed to break before yor destroy the rudder. I bet Austin kayak has them. I need to ge one as well.

Pat, I bet you already know there is a spare pin and split ring hanging in the back tank hatch. But it's great to have spares. Once on the Smith I uses a  skinny blue bic pen for a rudder pin on my Revo in a pinch.

When I beached it at Kerby cove I did not bring it up all the way because I had my flasher and line rapped around it, when I was trying to get it untangled a wave came in and rip it off in a split second :surf. I had to use my spar pin to get back. When I installed the new pin there must have been some sand in the mechanism because I went from power steering to hardy no steering. I did look at Austin but no luck I will call CCK tomorrow.

My spare came off and is lost inside the boat :smt012  Dont think thats a good place to keep it anyway, as I would rather not open that rear hatch to get at it to do the repair.  I'll get a couple of them and store them in a bag like EWB, and under my middle hatch as a backup.
