Here is how things went down:

"Hey dude, have you seen the pictures of the fish they catch in La Jolla?"
"I have!  That shit is bad ass man!"
"We should do that one day."
"How about the end of August?"
"Let's look at our schedules and go from there."

Two weeks later

"I've got the 20th and 21st off."
"Me too."
"Let's do this shit homie."
"Let's do this."

That's how it happened.  We decided we would bomb down to SD, get a hotel, crash there, wake up, fish La Jolla with Kevin the Sea Samurai then drive home.  Yes, we are that sick with "The Madness".  Quick and cheap, just how I like it.

So we pull into San Diego and I'm trying to hit up a sporting goods store so I can buy my "Ocean enhancement" stamp for my license.  We see this dude.

Yes, we know where you got your skinny jeans.

After paying my toll to fish SoCal, we hit up Fastlane, the largest Hobie dealer in the world.

All kinds of bad ass stuff in there.

After talking with the guys at Fastlane, we decide to take the new Pro Angler 12 for a spin.  Here is Alex, a Fastlane employee.

Look at that seat!

Mr. Hotplate going for a cruise.

After Fastlane, we checked into our hotel.  We stayed at the Comfort Inn, in Miramar.  I'd rate this place a 1 out of 10.  It was a real shithole.  Unless your looking to score some meth or maybe get stabbed, then its a 10.  In the lobby was a guy who's whole head was tattooed, yes I'm judging.  Across the hall from us was a dog, that was non-stop barking.  In the room next to us were 5 or so dudes getting drunk, for whatever reason they propped the door to their room wide open.  At first it was not so cool, but then we quickly realized it added to the experience, and we embraced it.  Embraced it as in we didn't complain, not get our own whole-head tattoos.  After checking our room out, we took our valuables back down to the car and drove into La Jolla for dinner at Karl Strauss.  Karl Strauss is the SD version of Gordon Biersch or Pyramid.

Fish Tacos and Red Trolly ale, bomb diggity.

Check out this liquor store in La Jolla!  Haha!

After dinner we went back to the lovely Comfort Inn and settled in for the night.

The next morning we met up with the Sea Samurai to typical SoCal conditions.

Sea Samurai showed up ready to hunt.

The only non-Hobies we saw.

This guy lands on the beach with a hook clear through his thumb.  The Sea Samurai calmly pulled it out for him.  I went over to check out his yak, and look what he had.

The fleet from the beach.

We hit the water and Kevin started jigging up huge squid.

Shortly after, Hotpeezy hooks up!

After that, all we could catch were Barracuda and a Soupfin shark.  I'll post GoPro footage of the shark later.

We spent the rest of the day looking for Yellowtail or WSB.  Finally, I got a WSB!

After the WSB, we fished for a little bit more and Hotplate got bit hard!

Turns out it was a big Ray, gave him a good ride though.

Then we called it quits and headed in after a few otw pics.  It was funny, he kept telling us to try and hold the fish out in front of us.  I guess he doesn't know about NCKA's no fishsniffer pose policy.

We got back to the beach and the typical La Jolla crowd was out.

We went over the Sea Samurai's house and he expertly filleted the fish for us.  Check out his WSB ear bone necklace.  LEGIT!

After he filleted the fish, we hit the road.  I got back to San Ramon at 0400.  It was totally worth the drive.  I had a blast and can't wait until next time.  When people say "Welcome to the madness" this is the kind of shit they are talking about.  Pure madness.  Thanks again Hotplate for driving.  And thank your mustache for being so bad ass.

I'm glad we got a chance to fish with Kevin. That lil kid is badass. Too bad he is calling it quits after this month (some kind of corporate gig). Sweet pics Jeff!
