Hey guys my friends brothers Nico is a design student in SF and is looking into designing gloves for abalone diving etc. This is for a project and he is actually looking at manufactures etc to actually make a prototype. Hes asked me for some help in showing him around he world of ab diving and what we as divers want and need in a glove. For me I like durability and dexterity in my gloves. There are many things that poke and scratch your gloves up when grabbing on an into rocks. Again he is just starting on his project and I think this could be a great opportunity for anyone in the diving community to share their thoughts and maybe when/if he makes a prototype reviews. Also let me know if you want to work with him as i will be moving up to OR next week and will not be able to be as hands on as I would like. He is not a diver but hes been by the ocean his whole life I think its random that hes into this idea but heck ppl have made vast improvements to other fields than their own so who knows!  :smt044

An elastic loop on the top of the hand to hold a dive light would be nice.

The loop could snag things though.

I wonder how he'll make it with durability AND dexterity.  I have ones that are all kevlar, but feel like armor and others that are all neoprene, but get shredded.  There are some with kevlar palms and nylon backs, so it'd be interesting to see what he comes up with.

If using neoprene, 2-3mm. Just as long as you can protect the whole palmside and fingertips effectively.
Wish him luck!

have him think built-in led lighting.  Possible materials could be a Kevlar or carbon fibre offspring.  Sharkskin.

SeaSoft has already made the ideal glove. It is called the Ti PRO EDGE. You can find it here:

Three fingered mittens is what I have used for 30 years though they're getting hard to find.  If he makes these I'll buy a pair every three years.
