So trying to dial in  Elite 4. Have marked fish and even fumbled around and set to get back. Having trouble navigating back to starting point. Is there a YouTube video or article someone has seen to help??

Also ff sometimes loses scale, in 80' of water it can fritz out and say 6'.  Will come back around displaying correct depth.  Standard transducer mounted thru-hull, gooped, no water bath.

It is common for the goop to bubble as it cures, this could lead to issues with ff you described.
As for the gps, if you mark your location (outside the harbor) you could always bring up that waypoint and chose go to.
This will plot a course for you.

Sent from my phone cause I can ;-)

Any luck, playing around with the fishfinder to fix the problem?

In researching this unit recently I read in the manual that it recommended switching to the freshwater mode in the fishing menu when fishing in less than 100' of water. It said that by changing to this mode it will provide better detail of the structure and fish at the bottom. I have heard that using the goop method is not so great, that is how I did mine too. I am considering removing the goop and just caulking the outer edge of the transducer with rtv or silicon caulking to secure it without anything between it and that hull.
Go to the downloads and there is a pdf for the installation and the operating manual. Good luck.

You sound like me when my Elite 5 was new.  Gotta read the instructions.  When you start it wait for it to pick satellite connection. In the navigation menu, there a command - Go to or return to vessel.  Click that and the chart will show your location. Then save it as waypoint.
The unit should start a trail in the plotter.  There is also an adjustment for the water depth.  I have mine set for 200 feet.
Read the instructions and play around with it.  Mine is gooped inside the hull and works fine.  I was at Timber Cove last weekend, the plotter came in handy because of heavy fog and I can tell vegetation from fish marks.

When mounting the transducer there can be no "AIR GAP" between the hull and the tranny.  Ultra sonic pulses cannot, will not pass through air.  I think that simply having the transducer sitting on the hull won't work very well.
Water as a medium does work well.  Silicon will work, as will goop, but both have to be fully "cured" otherwise the US pulses will "Boil" the medium causing air bubbles.  Guess what, air bubbles block the US pulses.
BTDT!  Now I use the water bath method.  Never have to worry about any air betwee the transducer and the hull when it's sitting in water.

Hey thanks for all the thoughts. Seems weird that if I had air gaps in goop, it wouldnt be intermittent.  I am getting more comfortable with navigation, since I was working on a good skunking Monday, I had ample time to work on it.  Still a great day on the water....
