ShimanoTrevala Rod with a Diawa Sealine reel......it's light weight and sports a very good backbone....the reel is bomb proof and wont rust/corrode on you.
What he Said
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

if youre spending $$ the Trevala rods are AWESOME, for half the price the bass pro oceanmaster rods are great and almost as light.  the Abu Revo reels are awesome and even the STX is unbeatabel for  most stuff (not WSB tho) as long as you rinse it after fishing.  I also LOVE my shimano Tekota 500 line counter, especially since I know exactly where my lore is on the drop.

of course my 2c on this is more like 3 bills, but as long as you dont drop your rods overboard, you will be happy.  if you dont leash and think youll drop, go with the ugly stick and deal with the extra weight and fatigue... its way less painfull than watching 3 bills or more sink into the deep  ;)
Less Mental than before, Still savage AF tho <3

Went to my local shop. They said to get the shimano trevala and Avet sx. Im set on the trevala not sure about avet. It looks like a great reel. But is it gonna be able to handle something big? i dont wanna hook a big sturgeon or shark and not be able to handle it.

if you wanna save some$ look into the ugly stick tiger lite rods and the tiger lite jigging rods.for the price you can buy two for the price of one trevala.dont get me wrong i have two trevala one tfc63 mh and one trevala s 63m.if i didnt have these i wouldve gone with the tiger lites.wont hurt as much if you lost it in a roll over.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Trevala and Avet SX is as good as it gets in that price range for jigging rods and can handle any sturgeon or shark, except maybe a mako.  :smt005 The Trevala is not a great casting rod so it depends on what you are fishing for. If you can spend a bit more, I would go with a Calstar GFX or Seeker Hercules paired with the Avet for spectra jigging. My go to jigging setup for big game is a Calstar GFX 700ML with an Avet SX 6/4. I have taken YFT to #100 and YT to #40 on that setup.

The Seeker Stealth rods are the best rod you can buy in the $150-180 range, bar none.

I started out with Fenwick Pacific Stiks and Seekers , still use them but the last 5 or 6 rods I have purchased have been Uglysticks . Can't beat them for 1/3 the price of Seekers , etc . and I have caught many large sturgeon - no problemo !

As far as reels , Penn 500 or the newer 500 series are tough as nails , I've got a couple of Shimano TLD's , they and a Penn 545 are my go to reels .

Get the Trevala with a cheap levelwind reel. Avets are great just a bit of over kill for what we are fishing for. WSB and sturgon yeah you want an Avet anything else you can go small levelwind. My 0.02 cents worth... I use a abu black max levelwind I got from walmart for 50 bucks. Going on its 3rd and last year....
