Anyone thinking Trinidad or Eureka this weekend?

Me!  Though I might be leaning towards Trinidad after my long paddle just to get out of Hum Bay last Sunday.

I'm always thinking about it, but that's about as far as I get!  Dove season opens up on Saturday, so I'll be chasing feathers instead of fins this weekend.  Good luck if you make it out, keep an eye on the forecast as it's looking a bit sloppy.

SAT
N WIND 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT. MIXED SWELL...
NW 4 TO 6 FT AND W 2 TO 3 FT. PATCHY FOG.

SUN
N WIND 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT. MIXED SWELL...
NW 4 TO 6 FT AND W 2 TO 3 FT. PATCHY FOG

I just looked at the forecast and see beenfishin is one step ahead of me with posting the forecast.  Not looking epic to be paddling out in. I may reconsider.

That forecast looks good if the 5 knots comes true nearshore vs the 15, and it has been lately.  4-6' swell isn't bad at all.  If the salmon bite off Eureka comes in close and hot late this week, Dave, I'll let you know, but otherwise I think Trinidad holds your best all around chances at nice fish from the yak.  You bringing the salmon magnet?  (Mitch!   :smt003)

Hope to see you guys.   :smt001

I got excited when I pin pointed the forecast and it looked like 5-6 kts...heck maybe I do not know how to read it right. I am thinking this may be the only weekend I can get over. Mitch the Magnet is working  :smt010 and I don't feel comfortable taking Sam the Man (13 yrs old) in the ocean too far yet :smt010. Bet he could handle the paddle, not sure he has the fish skill set yet....so I may just come over by myself and do some selfish time :smt003. By Thursdays I will check the wx and ocean conditions and see if the drive is worth it. There will probably be a lot of people out there on the holiday weekend... and yet the salt water is calling me from way over here. :smt001

Saturday: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming NW around 6 kt in the afternoon. Patchy fog before 11am. Mixed swell...NW 5 ft and W 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Saturday Night: NNW wind 7 to 9 kt. Patchy fog after 11pm. Mixed swell...NW 5 ft and W 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Eureka looks alright too:

Thursday Night: NNW wind 5 to 12 kt. Patchy fog after 11pm. Mixed swell...NW 6 ft and WNW 1 ft. Wind waves 1 to 2 ft.

Friday: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming NW 5 to 8 kt in the afternoon. Patchy fog before 11am. Mixed swell...NW 6 ft and W 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Friday Night: NW wind 5 to 9 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the evening. Patchy fog after 11pm. Mixed swell...NW 5 to 6 ft and W 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Saturday: NNW wind 5 to 7 kt. Patchy fog before 11am. Mixed swell...NW 5 ft and W 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Saturday Night: N wind 7 to 10 kt. Patchy fog after 11pm. Mixed swell...NW 5 ft and WNW 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft

Cape Mendo even has a potential good forecast:
Saturday: N wind around 10 kt. Patchy fog before 11am. Mixed swell...N 2 ft and SSW 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Cmon down and slay some fish.

Thank you! :smt006 It is so nice to live near the coast. I am choking on fire smoke here in PC. Probably would never see you on the water unless I can see 7 miles out :smt003. Can't wait to see your 100lber. :smt006

Not sure of mine...I was hoping to hook up with your experts. :smt003 May fish around Trinidad. I have not caught a salmon of out of my yak yet and would love to this year! I would also be content enjoying a day on the ocean. :smt006

I'm up for Sunday morning.  It is one of my few fall weekend days off of my fun job - there are no youth football games to officiate during the holiday weekend :)

Any other slayers coming over, or are you all out killing dove?

Shoot fire, got all excited about fishing I failed to ask 'where' do we want to go fishing from?  Sunday Humboldt Bay low tide is 7:21am so if we want to paddle out from there, we may want to take advantage of the outgoing tide before it turns and head out real early.  However, I am curious to see what the bite might be out of Trinidad.

Thoughts?

I'm up for either.  Trinidad offers the rockfish option.  We can monitor reports out of HTC and here and make a gamtime decision.
