Not to get you guys too excited here  is a report from the sniffer He was fishing yoday.

Quote
After a horrible week with a death in my immediate family, today was going to be the only day to get a little sanity back.  Late last night, I decided to hook up my little boat - 14' Crestliner and head for Tahoe for the first time this year.  Yesterday, I stopped at Sportsman's and bought a K16 and K18 Kwikfish in rainbow pattern.  Launched out of Cave Rock a little late - 6:30 and dropped the traps in the rocks.  Hooked on th jointed kwikfish and let out 200' heading north.  Started rigging up pole 2 and when I heard the clicker on the rod started singing (what a beautiful song) and the pole was past the end of the boat.  Set the hook and felt the head swings then nothing.  Started reeling like crazy and he was swimming in until he saw the boat and then sounded to the bottom several times.  Reminded me of salmon fishing in B.C.  After 10 minutes and almost falling in the drink trying to get the net, a beautiful 19# was in the boat and all was good and I was right in front of the tunnel - rod was only in the water about 10 minutes.  Let that rod out again and set out rod 2 and head north toward Logan in about 40" of water.  Went to Logan swung around and headed south to pick the minnow traps as it was around 9 and the sun had been on the water for awhile and figured it was time to go deep.  Then rod 2 went all the way back and started stripping line.  After another 10 minutes a 14.5# was in the boat.  A fantastic day, a calm perfect lake - nothing better to regain perspective.   Tight lines.

47-53 degrees might be the surface temp, but I was there 2 weeks ago and if you go below the surface and you will freeze. Helluv ccccccold.
Ice cream headache cold.
Last time I launched off of Kings beach. I marked one fish at 29 feet and headed towards the canyon. Never marked another fish all day and zero love for me.
I think Stuart could definitely give us some intel as he did darn good last time he was out.
Bring PLENTY of sun screen. You will get fried especially if the air is cool.
If ya want crawdads for bait just use a weight at the end of a line with a hook and a piece of bacon. You will be able to see them take the bait. The dads will hang on to it all the way to the boat. Just have your net ready to scoop them up.
Are we launching from Coon st? Correct me if I am wrong, but that is right next to Kings beach isn't it?

I've been meaning to do some kayaking/fishing at Lake Tahoe ever since I got my kayak.  I like to go up to the North Shore a few times a year, so I'll try to join you guys on the next trip.  I'll probably try scuba dive up there as well this summer, if anyone is interested.

yea coon st. is at one of the four stop lights on the north shore in kings beach. Its the one closest to state line, Crystal  Bay. It is a short paddle to Crystal Bay Point, deepest drop offs on the lake.Macs are in the shallows now, i have been catching them in 5 to 95 feet. :fishing1 Some in as close to shore as  it is  possible to paddle. Oh and you will get fried :anger :anger by the sun, a mile closer makes a huge difference. I have shed three or four layers this spring so far. Luanching out of Sand Harbour one day would be cool too. Troll the boulders on the east side, just depends on the wind.

Just remember that any launch from the Nevada side will not count towards the angler of the year pool. You have to launch and land on the California side. Cave Rock is so easy. Too bad it is on the NV side.

Coon st. sounds good, what time are you thinking of meeting on saturday?

John

btw  -- there is also a launch at speedboat dr., right before the casinos. It's a small beach, but you need wheels to get down to the beach area (about 500 Ft.)

Coon street is on the California side, Speedboat is a little closer to the point. However it is just a short paddle,20 minutes from coon. Get the blood flowing and purge a little alcohol from the previous night. :smt013 I was thinking 5:30, 6:00ish on saturday. They been biting thru the day. I,m going to try to get out tomorrow and feel it out. I have not had time latley. will let you know how it is.

Mooch,
You can launch at Kings Beach SRA, google it for the phone number. I went out on a charter from North Shore back in Feb. and the guide said kayak fish should be killer late spring early summer in the shallows. I give him a call and see if I can get any info for you guys.

Later, Bigfishbabb
