Naoaki taught me the importance of Throw Bags I fished the river for Steel with him twice and made a B-Line to West Marine. :smt011
Yup!
But seriously I did get rescue by throw bag at work, so it's important to know how to use (& rebag it quick).

Be careful when using a throw bag in emergencies.  Learn as much as you can before you have to use one.  Plenty of people have made simple mistakes with throw bags and wind up causing more harm than help.  I have one from my whitewater days and luckily only had to use it once and luckily I had a very experienced person with me that showed me how to do it correctly.  Once I finally get my kayak I will have to learn how to use mine again, there is a lot more to it then just throwing it.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Also, it isn't just about learning how to use a throwbag.  We should all take the time to learn what to do when on the receiving end of it.  It will increase the danger to all if you do the wrong thing when you're the person on the other end of the rope.

What would be some things to NOT do on the receiving end of a throw bag?  Besides the obvious (Yanking the rescuer off his/her platform)

What about when tossing the line?  I would suspect that you'd want to get the bag close to the person, if in standing water. If on moving water,  I'd try to toss the bag upstream and let it float down to or catch up to person.
Having never done this, I believe this is how, right or wrong, I would perform.

Another important point is how to properly tow a disabled kayak, thats a different discussion.
