Hobie is going to have to look into manufacturing those things in China.  Just too costly to do business in California it seems.  They could kill the market in volume if they would lower their prices.

Yes I lucked out on what I paid.  One big plus with Hobie's is their great resale value.

The '11 model MSRP was 3599 so I really lucked out. It's a worthy investment even with the increase.

Kayaks are costly from what I have researched. I'm looking to buy one for my first time and yet I'm leaning towards used due to the high dollar of a new one.

All I can say is...congrats to Vince on his new pa 12! Lol. Anyways... We don't want China made hobies, its quality that we want and you really get what u pay for. Besides, aren't we already paying an arm and a leg for the kayak we truely want? What was the main reason for it? It sure wasn't because it was the cheapest kayak on the market brothers.

+1 on that. The price is OK for what you get. A 16' catamaran will cost you $5-10,000.

The middle class looks like the 100,000 families per month that are vacationing here. Or it looks like our two friends and their families, who just visited ( two separate visits), spending 4 weeks each jetting around the US, buying stuff, staying in hotels and eating some pretty fancy meals as the norm.  Or maybe our other friend grace, who is having her wedding here-the small one- flying all the relatives that couldn't make the china wedding into NYC for the weekend.
China has a long way to go, but it is far far ahead of where you think it might be.
