Wondering if anyone has ever caught rockcrab in the harbor? Thinking it would be cool to drop a pot while I fish for rockies. Has this been done and any secret pots? :)

iv never caught them inside the harbor but right outside if you drop them by the getty you'll get them

They are on both sides of the jetty but most drop pots on the outside. The main reason is to keep them out of the boat traffic so after you leave the harbor turn left (east) and paddle 100 yards or more before dropping. Make sure your extra rope is not floating on the surface. Drop the traps about 100-200' from the jetty. You can also drop off the west jetty if you are heading to the reef to fish but the swell can hit that jetty pretty hard so the south jetty is safer. The minimum size is 4" and the limit is 35. All dungies and any fish have to be released. There isn't much meat on them and the shells are crazy hard but in SCAL they are commercially harvested and sold in restaurants and markets. Just another reason to live in NCAL.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Do the rock grabs have a season like the dungies?

Thanks Great Bass 2 and snapperhead. I'm thinking about getting a few danielson pots and I love to eat rock crabs. Nothing some salt and pepper can't do.  My pops used to take me crabbing at Fort Point when I was a kid and since then I've loved crabbing, wed come home with a bucket full of rockies. But yea my next trip out I'll rig up a pot and some old fish carcasses and try for the south jetty to see what happens. Thanks again!

In that case, let me know when you're going out Steph, I'll join you.  I have done quite a bit of crabbing and fishing in HMB. I was just out yesterday at HMB with Lifeisgood.  I got a handful of RF and a few lings just undersize.
