Ok... Ive been able to take the kayak out and fish in my local waters of the sf bay... Hearing all these reports of SC, MBK, capitola, etc., I would like to get some fishing tips on lures, bait rigs, and tackle so when my schedule allows me to hook up with some of the bros I can make it out all equip'd and ready to fish.... I love being OTW with my yak.... I've got most of the normal yak stuff ready. Now jus need the actually fishing arsenal... Thanks guys.

swimbaits (like the green headed one in Vince's post) are my go-to.
Pick the leadheads to suit your drift speed (faster drift=heavier head). I like some white and some dark colors. Halloween (shown) is a proven one.
I also like twin tail scampis in white or metallic green.
A Sabiki rig will get you sardines & mackerel, and other baitfish.

95% of my fishing is done with these, but I have a few secret weapons too.
Fishing with bait is a whole other game. lots of rigs to choose from for halibut, seabass, salmon.

I like to use white twin tail scampis, halloween and dorado color swim baits, fisherman's warehouse has a great selection of swimbaits. Also, hoochies on a torpedo sinker are great for jigging. I just started fishing the ocean so I'm learning as I go but these are what have hit for me so far.

Fuzz made a great post about the basics so search for that with the search feature.

My personal taste is swimbaits of all sizes and lead irons rigged with an assist hook for RF. As mentioned earlier live bait is more build to suit for species/conditions but I generally use a slider rig with a 3' leader and 3-16oz weights and two j-hooks. Trolling I like a bounce ball rig w/ herring flasher and hoochied chovie/ squid/ swimbait with single j hook.

Best advice is too go out and see what others are nailing the fish on and copy. :smt004
