I'm new to kayak fishing and have been gearing up for the couple of weeks in order to get ready. I bought the kayak (FnD) from GWKC and have bought a seat, paddle, rod leashes, paddle leash, fishfinder, folding knife, signal mirror, drybags, sponge, gaff, vhf radio, whistle, gps and a few other small things. I already have the baitbucket, rods etc.  I'm now looking for a tackle box that is water proof if there is such a thing.

What kind of tackle boxes do you use? Where do you usually keep them on the kayak? I'm moving into my new apartment and hopefully, I'll have the kayak ready shortly thereafter.
Thanks!

Ark,

Glad to see you're gettin into the sport. I use the plano waterproof boxes and bungie them to my yak. It's important to use waterproof tackleboxes cause its a pain wd-40ing  and drying your stuff.

Hey Elric. Hope you're doing okay over in Vegas.
Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to figure out where to store everything conveniently on the kayak so that everything is reachable easily.

I'll look into getting some waterproof boxes for the tackle. My aim would be to bring only the stuff that I will need and leave the extra tackle stuff at home. I'm almost there though. The only thing thats left are some tackle boxes, thigh straps, cart and the wetsuit.

I find the Plano "waterproof" boxes to just be "kinda water resistant". The big advantage is that if the lid is closed, then they will probably float for a while if they go overboard. You can pretty much kiss the standard boxes goodbye should they hit the water, assuming that the lures within do not have enough positive bouyancy to keep them afloat ( think sinkers, hair raisers, other jigs etc... )

I use the (white) Plano Marine Box - and it also doubles as a rod holders - I pimped it out by attaching 3 pvc pipes on the back side with the plastic tie downs. But to keep things organized, I put lures and pre-tied rigs in separate zip - lock bags  :smt002

I've used a little otterbox with a O-ring sealed lid, and some new tray type boxes i got as a gift (I think they came from Cabela's). Both worked great, the advantage of the tray-type box is that I can keep stuff separate, while in the single otterbox it was all just thrown together.
I always try & rinse everything in the box after being on the water anyway, to keep up the corrosion fight on the hooks.

yeah, just opening and closing it you'll get a bunch of seawater drips and drops in there anyways.
