Swimmers complain of getting rash at Hogan Lake
Story posted 2012.08.17 at 04:55 PM PDT
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is monitoring the water quality and posting warning signs at New Hogan Lake after nearly a dozen families complained of a rash.
The artificial lake near Valley Springs in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada is an attraction for families looking to cool off.
"I had red dots all over my legs and I knew it wasn't chicken pox," said Niki Garza.
A spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said rangers posted warning signs early Friday.
"We are testing the water quality to see which microorganism may be causing the rashes. We have received complaints from 11 people out of the thousands who visit here ," said spokesman Robert Kidd.
"I'm not worried at all.  The water here is as perfect as ever," said Hogan Lake visitor Angela Alexander.
