Need a little inside knowledge here. Wife want to go camping this weekend but there is a few restrictions. Can't be more than an hour and a half from redding. (pregnat and can't sit still for too long) so Albion is out. Looking of a lake side camp ground, rv or tent. Lake has to be warm enough to bring up the yak and SUPs. Thought about battle creek, or lewiston maybe

Last summer the wife kids and I stayed at lakehead campground on the north en of Shasta. Killer campsites they have little tent cabins too at reasonable prices .  It's semi close to the water but the trail would make it hard to get the yaks through. But their is a boat ramp about 1/4 mile away we just left the yaks on the truck and drive down. I would definately recomend this place. Hope you have a goo time.

Hi Jeff, Look into lake Siskiyou, about a hour away, nice beach, great lake, Castle Lake right there, and if you stay on the same road in there is Gunboot lake. Gumboot is a nice small lake warmer water and FULL of fish, and you can drive right up to the water.

Hi Jeff,

Siskiyou is a nice lake.  It has brown trout and small mouth in it.  I caught a 6 lb large mouth a few years ago, back in the tules at the back of the lake.

Britton is a nice lake.  The Burney campground is very nice and clean but a little spendy this time of year.  Make reservations if you can.  Coin showers, the falls to walk to and the lake is great for bass, crappie and trout.  In May the crappie fishing is amazing, thousands of them.  Baum is very close!  :smt003

Silver Lake and Bucks Lake are very nice up by Chester.  High mountain, you can camp for free around the shore and perfect for the kayak.  There are too many little lakes around there to name, all full of trout.  It is one of my favorites.  Butt Valley Reservoir is nice off of 89, but can be busy in the summer.

Battle Creek Reservoir is very very nice and a great kayak lake, pretty spot to camp (again free) in the trees.  I may take the daughter there this weekend if I don't go to the coast.  It is FULL of trout, stocked by PG&E.

I love Shasta, but it is too hot this time of year unless overnight cat fishing.  Same with Black butte, you would be in the water all day trying to stay cool.

Hat creek is on fire  :smt012

Good luck and have a great time  :smt006

I have stayed here A couple times and fly fished hat creek for some beautiful trout! Great place to camp close to all the attractions like Lassen Park, Devils tube etc. There is also A Hatchery nearby.

Butt is under a voluntary evacuation order right now because of the Chips wildfire, started on Hwy 70 along the Feather River and is burning towards Butt.  If you are considering the Chester/Lassen area I would recommend calling the Lake Almanor Ranger District, US Forest Service in Chester for updates on smoke/air quality in that area, don't want to expose your wife to that now.  Clayman can also  provide local intel, unless he is out on the fire lines.  Shasta area may be a better option this weekend. Good luck.
