Excellent. Last couple times at Muir I've showed up around 6:30, and the gates been open. I'll probably show up around 6:15. Silver Subie and a blue Scrambler XT.

Have you launched from Muir? Got beach wheels?

I'm gonna be out there whatever the weather's doing. If the wind is up, I'll hug the point and go for 'butts.  :smt003

I hear there's a stomach flu going around, and it's supposed to hit especially hard on Tuesday morning.  :smt044

How often do you get to fish for salmon in 60 feet of water???

Salmon Fishing Report, Monday, July 30, 2012

The last few days have felt like spring time, the conditions have been cold and rough as the weather from the North-West have pinned the Berkeley salmon fleet against the coast near Muir beach. But in spite of the windy conditions the fleet has been producing scores up to 20 fish on Sunday, as reported by Capt. Joey Gallia on the New Easy Rider. The Salmon are feeding on anchovies the have recently appeared in 60 feet of water in front of Muir beach.

Most of salmon being caught are mature fish, 12 to 28 lbs, staging on the edge of the bar, before making their run under the Golden Gate and onto the Sacramento River. The windy off shore conditions should cool the waters and bring more action as the week develops.

I'm kinda iffy for Tuesday. Screwed up my back and don't wanna risk being laid up during Albion. I'll keep you posted!

Hey all... If all goes well with Tuesday's hookup, will you guys be willing to take a newbie for my first time in the ocean? I have the hobie PA and been kayaking in the spb/sf. I would like to venture out for salmon and Hali's but don't want to go to the ocean by myself for obvious reasoning. Hows the launch at Muir? Surf or harbor? If u can fill me in that would be great. Also what type of tackle will I need. Leaders, weights, hooks.

Thanks

I might be down for Muir on Tuesday with you guys. Depending on weather and the reports from the guys heading out tomorrow (Sunday) I'll let you guys know Monday.
Fishstrong, that is one bad-ass avatar dude. A Hobie and a Black Nissan!?! My kinda guy. For salmon mooching, go buy some 4/0 BARBLESS Circle hooks, 4,6 and 8oz weights and 25lb Floro leader line. Snell the two hooks 2-3" from each other. Make your leaders 4' long. I use plastic sinker slides, rig it Carolina style. That's how I do it. Do you have a radio and a compass and all the other basic safety equipment?

Shellback- thanks for the avatar pic compliment. Hoping to put a fish with the yak pic soon...  :smt002

Thanks for the tackle tips. I'll be sure to get all that soon. As far as safety, I have a Standard horizon hx290 radio, PFD(of course), pool noodles packed in the hull, NRS FJ, Emergency throw rope, whistle, high vis flag. I do not own a compass yet or gps. Wanted to see what the brothers are using. Plus I'm still purchasing equip as I go, which I'm finding a endless road(Which good and bad if u know what I mean with the old lady).

Unfortunately looks like I will not be able to hook up on Tuesday. But I will be free on wed. Hopefully I can find a hook up for wed instead. Weather/reports permitting.

There can be some decent shorebreak and/or currents at Muir. I'm my sure I'd recommend it for a first surf launch, but that's just me. Sometimes it's just little shin high peelers, sometimes it's got chest high sets.

Is anyone else planning on fishing Muir tomorrow? Weather is still looking breezy, but I plan to give it a shot.
