Does anyone know if it's cool to take my dog?  I'd like to take him out onto the water with me.

I'm planning on getting a room at the RockStar lodge, I'll check with them to be sure it's cool to have him there.

I would double check with them but I believe its fine, we took our dog to the lodge last year.

I was up at Silver Lake yesterday, Monday.  I wanted to check to be sure; we are meeting at the boat ramp right at the dam, right?  The turn-off is called Kay's Road I think...
The sign board says it's a FEE area; $5 a day to use it and $10 to launch. No word on kayaks.  Maybe someone knows?  Maybe they just look for a trailer and what that person paid.  I assume it's one or the other; $5 or $10, not $5 for the day PLUS $10 to launch.  The sign was not clear at all about that.  Otherwise a very nice area.  Small parking lot and a nice picnic area to spread out on.  Restrooms look brand new almost.

Also, it rained and I mean it rained HARD yesterday.  From about noon until 3pm it dumped.  Maybe as much as 2 inches of water.  Lots of run-off.  When I left there around 4pm it was still in the 50's for the high temperature.

I didn't fish, but asked about the fishing.  Guys in PB's with all the equipment told me they weren't even marking fish so had no idea where the fish even were so they were not catching anything.  The only thing I can think of is the fish are hugging the shoreline and the PB's are not going close enough or shallow enough to mark them.  A few fishing from the dam, but they weren't getting anything.  They seemed to look very bored.

P.S.
I have been able to arrange very affordable lodging ($50.00 per room - sleeps 3) about 1/4 mile from ramp at the Rockstar Lodge in the Kirkwood Village;

Are you sure about the 1/4 mile?  Maybe I'm unclear of the Silver Lake boat ramp.  I measured 6 miles from Kirkwood to the ramp at Silver Lake/ Kit Carson Lodge.

That rainwater should be good for the lake, it's gettin a bit low.

They didn't mark any fish? They must've not been in the right spot.

Silver Lake got a triple plant a week or so ago when the DFG truck broke down.  They towed the truck back to Silver lake and dumped all three loads in.
There used to be a sign that said "5.00 for kayaks and canoes and 10.00 for power boats" but that sign has been gone for a while.
Here is EID's contact info:

I have been on Silver Lake in a yak when there were numerous power boaters water blasting around the lake, it would be a good idea to use some type of a flag.  I have not fished Silver Lake for several years due to poor results.  YMMV.............
There is another parking area closer to the dam/spillway that might be a free area to park and launch, I sent an email to EID asking about this area and I asked them to clarify the launch fee for yaks/canoes and power boats.
If the water level is low there would be another large area to the east side of Silver Lake  (drive down the road where Kit Carson Lodge and the cabins are)  that could be used as a free parking and launch area.  This would need to be looked into as it might be blocked off now but used to be able to drive down and launch right at the water's edge.  The road continues out past the cabins and a Aspen grove and ends next to some huge boulders.

Hello,
It used to be 5.00 to launch kayaks and canoes at Caples and Silver Lakes, now the sign board just says "10.00 to launch".  Is it 10.00 to launch any watercraft?  If it is indeed 10.00 to launch any water craft is that fee only applicable if the ramp is used?  If a kayak or canoe is launched from the parking area closer to the dam at Silver lake for instance is it free to do so there?

Ok, already got a response from a Cheri Jaggers from EID as above, free to launch but she did not mention if there is a day use charge...............

I was there on Sunday with Sandbag and they have an iron maiden that was full of envelopes for the day use charge.  I would think the $5.00 would be in effect.

Paddleboy is in. Learned to kayak on Silver Lake when I was 7. Looking forward to reminiscing of old times. Plan on bringing Jayson, the new guy that works at the shop.
