I am looking to get a smoker which I would only use a few times a year. Anyone know of a decent smoker, electric or other. I am looking at the electric Little Chief for $105.00 any advice or recommendations.

I got a Brinkman Electric Smoker at Home Depot for less than $80.00 a fw weeks ago. It is easy to use and I have done salmon and pheasant in it already. I still want to get an element control though cuz it tends to smoke hot

I found my little $40 Brinkmann (non-elect/non-gas) does just fine ...  Does require attention to make sure you have charcoat & wood ready to go on occasion.

If  you get the little chief and want to smoke in the winter, get the insulating jacket.

Or just take the box it comes in and place it unside down over the smoker from the top.   :smt002

+1... I only need that much real estate a few times a yr. I added some extra racks so I can do more. I also use a hot plate at the bottom vs charcoal. Super simple and easy to control. I just place an old cast iron or steel pot and fill it with chips.

Nice option .... may have to look into that.  Do you find the cooktime to be the same or faster?

pretty much the same....just less baby sitting. once its up to temp you can dial it back and just toss in more chips. You can make it cook faster if you want. I tend to cook hotter with big cuts. It just takes WAY to long to smoke a turkey. but for fish or small cuts its the same.

Dude, I highly recommend the masterbuilt electric smoker. $150-200 comes in various sizes. It has digital controls that allow you to set the cooking temperature and cooking time. It also has a built in probe thermometer that allows you to monitor the internal temp of meat on the digital monitor outside the box. Very reliable. Uses regular wood chips. You are gonna love it.
