Good reason to wear eye protection...
Saw a fisherman netting a fish, line was very taught and then before he knew it,
it was deep in eyeball poor guy lost his eye... U never Know?

Would be even safer to have sideguards attached.

I don't normally wear glasses so not being used to taking care of them, I'm pretty hard on them as far as breaking and losing. So my normal eyeware while fishing are ANSI approved Smoke Gray safety glasses cause they've got good UV protection (99%+) wrap around style with 2.0 reader inserts too, $10.

This spring I hooked my biggest sturgeon probably around 60#, while trying to control it yakside I got one of the hooks stuck on the snare, the fish dove and the line broke off only that hook, which shot off like a bullet hitting my glasses dead center of my right eye, Ping,,,off it went, no harm done.

Then the fish took another dive and snapped the leader.......

The first link is the one I wear, the second link is another better looking model, neither is gonna win a fashion contest but solid physical and UV eye protection for cheap, not a big loss when you sit on them or drop'em over the side.

I actually bought mine over the counter at S&S tool in Martinez.

What I haven't been able to find (under about $150) are glasses that are polarized and have reading inserts.

Do you mean kind of like this? The good old GoPro captured this during this years steelhead run.

Good idea.  I usually wear some clear safety glasses on my Whaler center console as my poor man's windshield, but now I'll have to start wearing them on the yak too.

Here is a link for us old guys who need some help with the knots. I have a pair of the polorized, bifocals for $70 and like them. As you can see you can get em for $15 with the cheaters clued on the outside..not a fashion statement but they do work OTW. Hope this link works?? :smt001

Check out the Walmart stuff.  Polarized, some have the bifocal addition, @ $15-20.  I think Berkley and Spiderwire brands.  I like to drop my glasses in the drink about every third outing as a gesture to the river gods.

I wear prescription polarized wrap around sport goggles.
Friggin' LOVE 'em!
If I fall out they stay on. I can easily move them to my forehead for whatever reason then slide them back down just as easily.
I would not hesitate to get another pair if I ever broke these.

I've had tackle hit my glasses.  I'm blind as a bat without glasses, can't wear contacts, so I had my optometrist look in her catalogs for the retro 70's huge plastic frames with double bridges - with my Rx, the things are damn near bulletproof, one pair clear, one pair polarized dark.
If I lose them overboard, I'm screwed, so I get the kind of keepers that hold the temple pieces very tight, then tie on a cord with loop in it just large enough so it fits over my head and down to my neck.  I use to windsurf with similar frames and never lost them.
And clean them with diluted baby shampoo to keep them from fogging up.  Rinse the salt out of the hinges or they'll corrode and fall apart.
